Mrs. Bishop's Class

We Are Holy Name School, Omaha -- 5th Grade

In math class the fifth grade students are making real headway on their way to sixth grade math next year!  The students practice MANY skills each day and work hard to focus and do their best.  At times, mistakes do happen and each student makes corrections as required by the teacher.  Parents are encouraged to doublecheck assignment's completion and correctness (without doing the work for them).  Topics which will be mastered by the end of the school year are:

  • Long division with 2 digit divisors
  • 3 digit times 3 digit multiplication
  • Understanding decimal place value
  • Decimal addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
  • Adding and subtracting fractions with like and unlike denominators (which requires equivalent fractions)
  • Multiplying and dividing fractions
  • Simplifying and reducing fractions
  • Understanding and memorizing basic and frequently used fractions and changing them to decimals and percents
  • Conversions of units of measurements

With such a "full plate" the students need to stay focused and get their work completed so that they are ready for the next lesson.

Success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has overcome while trying to succeed.
